Service project and training day
The Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada requests SNAG’s consideration for help with a tree assessment and design plan. They are seeking a “donation of service” to accomplish this need.
The Clubhouse involved is the Donald W. Reynolds Boys and Girls Club, which is located at 2980 Robindale Road, Henderson, NV 89074 (between Eastern and Pecos). It has a narrow back yard enclosed by a block wall. Mature trees with surface roots line the yard.

We will be presenting a training and experimentation day to help accomplish some of the objectives of the Boys and girls club. It has been determined that all the trees (20 Ash, 1 Cottonwood) need to be removed to facilitate a new play yard surface. This will be phase 1, phase 2 will be in the Fall of 2023.

Discussion and examples – Work and demonstrations-

Discuss goals, safety procedures, objectives and outline plan for the morning’s projects.
Examine specific tree characteristics conditions and problems, identify problems and remedial techniques. Demonstrate pruning objectives and methods etc. for pruning and removal.
Limbing and cross-sectional dissection of Ash trees, examination and identification of fungal decay in cottonwood including felling of trees and examination of crown decay, felling technique demonstration for removing of Ash’s.
